Kicked out?

Kick

If you see messages like "You are banned", "G-Lined", or "you have been kicked out of #channel" then this is the right place fpr you to get some more information. aboutpixel.de / Stop-rot © Rainer Sturm

If you see a message like this:

john_doe was kicked from #english by Operator [reason]

You have been kicked from #english by Operator (reason)

This means that an operator has kicked you out of the channel with a specific reason shown in your kick message. A kick is not permanent and you will be able to return to the channel. If you were kicked for breaking the rules, then make sure you know what you did wrong before returning. If you were kicked for idling, which is the most common reason to be kicked, then please only return to the channel when you are ready to chat again.

BAN

Cannot join #deutsch (You’re banned)

If you continue to break the rules after being kicked, this will result in a channel ban. This means you can't rejoin the channel for a set period, usually between an hour and 24 hours. A ban should give you time to think about why you were kicked from the channel.
If you are unsure why you have been kicked and banned, then you could ask the operator who kicked you in a query. The reason for the ban should be shown in your kick message.

Kill

* You were killed by IRCop ((some reason))

If you get a message like this, this means that the Operator has closed your connection to the network. Check the 'kill' message to find out why you have been disconnected. Kills usually happen because of repeated rule breaking, sometimes in more than one channel. It can also happen if you flood a channel by mistake (copy and paste can often do this) to stop you flooding the channel. You will be able to rejoin the network, but for rule breaking this is the final warning before you get g-lined.

G-line

You are banned from this server- test (2008/05/09 14.41)
-
Closing Link: clone[clone@220.253.146.118] (Banned)

If you see something like this when you try to connect, this means that you were banned from the whole Scoutlink IRC Network. Such a ban is only used if you repeatedly broke the rules. If you think you were g-lined by mistake, please contact your Country/Regional Co-ordinator (see Council Members) for more information.

In general:

Occasionaly it could happen that a kick, ban or g-line might be set accidentally or because of a misunderstanding. In these cases, speak to the person who set the ban or kick if possible, or if you are g-lined or do not know who set the ban, contact your Country/Regional Co-ordinator (see Council Members) for more information.  Remember such errors are really rare, and make sure you give the person dealing with it all the information you can.
